What is a Rosh Chodesh Group? Rosh Chodesh, the celebration of the new month or moon, was designated a women's holiday because it is told that the Israelite women did not contribute their gold jewelry in the making of the golden calf. They were thus rewarded with their own special day of celebration each month.
Park's Rosh Chodesh Group, facilitated by Rabbi Sharon Marcus, provides an opportunity for Park women members of all ages to come together to learn, celebrate, and share our rich Jewish heritage and traditions. The group meets monthly during the evening in the synagogue or in members' homes for diverse programs of interest to women. Some of the programs that have been held since the Rosh Chodesh Group began in early 2002 are "The Myths & Mysteries of the Mikvah," an annual Women's Passover Seder, Jewish holiday cooking, Jewish mysticism, a book discussion group, spiritual preparation for the High Holidays, holiday celebrations for Sukkot and Chanukah, and a Tu B'Shevat Seder. Future programs will continue to reflect the wide range of interests of the women in our congregation.
